Bilbao Airport has had another record-breaking September

Bilbao Airport is moving steadily towards what looks set to be a historic year in 2024. For many months now, La Paloma has been steadily improving its numbers. And last September was no exception. In the ninth month of the year, 663,116 passengers passed through the Bizkaia terminal, making it the best September in its history. A figure very similar to that of August, a holiday month par excellence.

The figure represents an increase of more than 5% over September 2023 and almost 14% over 2019. This confirms the good health of Bilbao Airport, which maintains a position of resounding leadership in the Cantabrian coast and is very close to entering the ‘top-10’ of the airports managed by Aena.

With regard to the type of passengers, the number of domestic commercial passengers increased by 3.7%, up to 363,786 passengers. On the other hand, international passengers increased in September with a rise of 7.2%, reaching 298,561 commercial passengers.

With regard to air operations in the last month, 5,095 landing and take-off operations were carried out at Bilbao Airport, which represents a very slight decrease of 0.4% compared to the same month last year.

Accumulated data

In the first nine months of the year, Bilbao Airport has reached 39,862 aircraft movements, 2.3% more than in the same period last year.

Moreover, it has already registered a total of 5,177,706 passengers, 7.8% more than in September 2023. A figure that leaves the Biscayan aerodrome well on track to beat last year’s record number of passengers, when it reached the historic figure of 6,336,441 passengers.
